One of the objectives of the Kona Japanese Civic Association is to preserve the unique legacy of the many contributions of persons of Japanese ancestry to the Kona community. It is also our objective to support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness of the Japanese culture. We hope that by offering these scholarships we bring awareness of the legacy of the Japanese in Kona.
Brief Description: We are offering two (2) $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools in West Hawaii who have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning, i.e., community college, college or university.
Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to support college bound students who wish to perpetuate and promote the Japanese culture.
Award: The scholarship may be presented at the Kona Japanese Civic Association Annual Festival, as well as at the Senior Awards Night at the recipients’ high school by a member of the Kona Japanese Civic Association.

KJCA Scholarship

It is also our objective to support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness and pride in our Japanese heritage. We hope that by offering these scholarships we bring awareness to our legacy and heritage.
We will award two $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors in West Hawaii with financial needs who will be attending an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Home-schooled seniors and students of any ethnic background are invited to apply.
Applicants will be judged on a 600-word essay based on their awareness of and how the Japanese culture influenced them, as well as financial need, academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities and volunteer with community organizations.
Submittal Deadline: The scholarship application and essay must be postmarked by March 22, 2019.

The Kona Japanese Civic Association will be having its Annual Golf Tournament on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
We are asking our loyal members, family and friends to support our organization. Funds raised will be used to promote our scholarship program for two graduating high school seniors; Kahakai Japanese Group, Kodomo No Hi (Children’s Day); Konawaena Middle School Japanese language students; and other programs that support and promote awareness of our Japanese heritage and preserve the integrity of the Japanese culture.
We appreciate your participation by golfing, donation of prizes or becoming a Hole Sponsor. With your help we will continue to provide educational support and community projects for Kona.
