Welcoming the Emperor and Empress of Japan
Their Majesties, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan, visited the Big Island of Hawaii on Thursday, July 16, 2009. They were welcomed at the Kona International Airport upon their arrival as well as at the Maunakea Beach Hotel by the Welcoming Committee consisting of residents from East, North and West Hawaii. Their Majesties were hosted by the Ambassador of Japan to the United States and the Consul General of Japan in Honolulu at a small reception at Parker Ranch in Waimea. At the reception, officers of the Welcoming Committee had a rare opportunity of personally meeting and talking to Their Majesties. Upon their departure in the afternoon, another large group bid them a fond Aloha.
Honorary Chair for the event was Barry Taniguchi, Vice Chairmen were Walter Kunitake and Glenn Hirata.
