The Kona Japanese Civic Association was organized in order to support activities that relate to the Japanese culture in Kona.
To preserve the unique legacy of the many contributions of persons of Japanese ancestry to the Kona community.
To support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness and pride in our Japanese heritage.
To encourage participation in community activities for the benefit of individual members and the community as a whole.
To represent the Japanese-American community of Kona by maintaining a relationship with the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu which may include welcoming or hosting dignitaries or groups arriving in Kona from foreign countries, particularly from Japan.
To cooperate with other ethnic and civic organizations when such efforts mutually further the goals of the Association.

SCHOLARSHIP
One of the objectives of the Kona Japanese Civic Association is to preserve the unique legacy of the many contributions of persons of Japanese ancestry to the Kona community. It is also our objective to support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness and pride in our Japanese heritage. We hope that by offering these scholarships we bring awareness to our legacy and heritage.
We will award two $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors in West Hawaii with financial needs who will be attending an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Home-schooled seniors and students of any ethnic background are invited to apply.
Applicants will be judged on a 600-word essay based on their awareness of and how the Japanese culture influenced them, as well as financial need, academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities and volunteer with community organizations.
Submittal Deadline: The scholarship application and essay must be postmarked by March 19, 2021.
