Kona Japanese Civic Association is sponsoring/ presenting 3 Kabuki performances by Takamasa Fujima, a well-known Kabuki artist
from Japan.
Performances are approximately 1 hour.
No admission but donations welcomed.
Come and enjoy an evening of Kabuki makeup application and performance!
KJCA Scholarship
One of the objectives of the Kona Japanese Civic Association is to preserve the unique legacy of the many contributions of persons of Japanese ancestry to the Kona community. It is also our objective to support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness and pride in our Japanese heritage. We hope that by offering these scholarships we bring awareness to our legacy and heritage.
Brief Description: We are offering two (2) $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors from a high school in West Hawaii who has been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning, i.e., community college, college or university.
Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to support college bound students who wish to perpetuate and promote the Japanese culture.

Our Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Makalei Golf Club. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with a shot gun start at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $100.00 which includes a round of golf, lunch, and lots of prizes. Format is 2 person scramble.

Annual Meeting, Kodomo No Hi & Festival will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Kona Hongwanji Mission. Fellowship begins at 10:00 followed by the general membership meeting.
The children will have fun with rock climbing, a jumping castle, and many other games as well as hot dogs, shaved ice and chips.
The adults will enjoy Japanese food tastings, displays, entertainment and more. A delicious lunch will also be served.
Tickets are $10.00/adults and $5.00/children 3-10 yrs.

The Annual Meeting, Festival and Kodomo No Hi will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Konawaena High School Cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
There will be Ikebana and Origami displays, games and food for children (jumping castle, rock-climbing, hot dogs, etc.), Calligraphy, Entertainment (Taisho Koto, Shamisen, Japanese singing and dancing, Ukulele performance, etc.), and food tastings (Okonomiyaki, natto, tako yaki, mochi).
Super Seniors, age 88 yrs. will be honored. A delicious Japanese chicken curry will be served for lunch with other foods donated by various restaurants.
Tickets are $10.00/adult, $5.00/child 3-10 yrs

In 2010, U.S. Congress passed a bill awarding the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation's highest civilian award, collectively to the U.S. Army's 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), for their extraordinary accomplishments in World War II.
The community is invited to help honor these brave veterans at the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony in West Hawaii on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kekuaokalani (Kona) Gym. We want to honor all who have not received a medal and recognize those who have already received their medal from a previous ceremony.
Donations to sponsor a medal for these veterans would be greatly appreciated.

Annual Festival & Super Senior Day will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Konawaena High School Cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. -- 2:00 p.m.
There will be ikebana and origami displays, make-and-take activities, games, entertainment, food tastings, and a delicious chicken hekka lunch. Super Seniors, those 80 years and older, will be honored.
Tickets are $10.00/adult and $5.00/child under 10 years old.
The Kona-Hiroshima Peace Festival is a celebration of a relationship between two communities that seeks to create cultural, educational and promotional opportunities in an environment of mutual respect and with deeper understanding. A festival will be held on August 20, 2011 at the Keauhou Shopping Center followed by a performance by a group of Kagura dancers from Japan on August 21st at the Sheraton Keauhou. The Kagura dancers will also perform in Hilo on August 19th. In conjunction with these activities, original artwork will be displayed for sale by Japanese artists.
In March, 2012, as a cultural exchange, a keiki haulau will travel to Japan to perform. At that time, an art festival and auction will be held with artwork donated by local artists.

The Kona Japanese Civic Association will be having its first Annual Golf Tournament on Sunday, August 7, 2011. This event will take place at Kona Country Club, on the beautiful Mountain Course starting at 7:30 a.m.
We are asking our loyal members, family and friends to support our organization. Funds raised will be used to promote the following: Grandparents Day, Children’s Day, a Scholarship Fund, and the future support of the Kona Historical Society’s Museum Building at Uchida Farm. Early next year, we will be sending two students to Shizuoka, Japan on an educational Environmental Cultural Exchange.
We continue to preserve the integrity of the Japanese culture and have been active in our community, sponsoring various projects such as co-hosting the Emperor and Empress’ big island visit in 2009, disseminating information on the availability of the Kona Book of Condolences, soliciting donations for the Aloha for Japan fund (KJCA has made a $5,000 donation), and many more.
We appreciate your participation by golfing, donation of prizes, monetary donations, or becoming a Hole Sponsor. Your favorable consideration and your generous support will be greatly appreciated. With your help, we will continue to provide educational support and community projects for Kona.

The Annual General Membership Meeting was held on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Konawaena High School. The festival included entertainment, activities, demonstrations, games, and more.

2020 SCHOLARSHIP
One of the objectives of the Kona Japanese Civic Association is to preserve the unique legacy of the many contributions of persons of Japanese ancestry to the Kona community. It is also our objective to support cultural and educational programs that promote awareness and pride in our Japanese heritage. We hope that by offering these scholarships we bring awareness to our legacy and heritage.
We will award two $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors in West Hawaii with financial needs who will be attending an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Home-schooled seniors and students of any ethnic background are invited to apply.
Applicants will be judged on a 600-word essay based on their awareness of and how the Japanese culture influenced them, as well as financial need, academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities and volunteer with community organizations.
Submittal Deadline: The scholarship application and essay must be postmarked by March 23, 2020.

Taisho Koto
Taisho Koto from Japan performed on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Daifukuji Mission Hall at 7:00 p.m. Three players, including a master player, performed for 45-50 minutes.
The Emperor and Empress of Japan
Their Majesties, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan, visited the Big Island of Hawaii on Thursday, July 16, 2009. They were welcomed at the Kona International Airport upon their arrival as well as at the Maunakea Beach Hotel by the Welcoming Committee consisting of residents from East, North and West Hawaii.
